Is he right? Could the same economic rules be applied to the technical writing projects, where there is a large user base?

Love those TED videos - so thought provoking. I've been thinking myself about "free software" and free documentation related to my volunteer work for FLOSS manuals writing for the One Laptop Per Child project.
